If you love horror text-based games with visual novel elements, like Livber: Smoke and Mirrors, this game is for you.
Contra Spem Spero is DADZINGO’s debut game.
The game’s title is Latin, translating to ‘Against all hope, I hope.’ It is a narrative-driven horror experience, perfect for fans of all things spooky and scary.
The game was released on Steam on the 15th of August 2025. There is also a free demo available if you want to get a taste of the game before you decide to buy it.
How it all begins
In this game, you find yourself in a place you never imagined could exist, a twisted forest filled with creatures claiming that they were once human.
These creatures speak to you through the photos you take of them, and you can decide whether to accept their help or refuse it, trying to escape the forest.
The game features:
- Over 70,000+ words, told through the protagonist’s journal, photos and environment
- Branching paths and hidden content for replayability
- Four distinct endings
- 4+ hours per playthrough
- Over 50 locations to explore
There are also survival elements to keep you on your toes, such as two health bars. There are also puzzle elements to add diversity to the main gameplay.
You can play the demo or buy the game over on Steam right now. It’s also possible that it’ll go on Sale in the future for the upcoming Autumn sale.
If you love horror visual novels, we also recommend checking out The Stamp. It’s a lovecraftian text-based horror title, that fuses together rich lore with puzzle-focused gameplay.
